1. make an effort: 做出努力

2. Go ahead: 往下说，也可以指“去做吧”

3. schmuck: （美俚）笨人

例如：Before long, she realized she had married a real schmuck.（没多久，她就发现她嫁了一个地道的讨厌鬼。）

4. have a hard time: 非常艰辛，处境困难，这里是说“不是每个人都那么容易流露真情的”。

5. low blow: 卑鄙勾当

6. chit-chat: 闲谈；聊天

7. trophy: 战利品，胜利纪念品，奖品

例如：In his athletic career he won three cups and many other trophies.（在他的运动生涯中，他获得三个奖杯和许多其他奖品。）

9. distance: 使疏远[(+from)]

例如：Lately she has seemed to distance herself from me.（她近来似乎在疏远我。）
