　　1.Great Depression

　　The Great Depression was a severe worldwide economic depression in the decade preceding World War II. The timing of the Great Depression varied across nations, but in most countries it started in 1930 and lasted until the late 1930s or middle 1940s. It was the longest, deepest, and most widespread depression of the 20th century.

　　1.大萧条

　　大萧条，是指1929年至1933年之间全球性的经济大衰退。大萧条是第二次世界大战前最为严重的世界性经济衰退。大萧条的开始时间依国家的不同而不同，但绝大多数在1930年起，持续到30年代末，甚至是40年代末。大萧条是二十世纪持续时间最长、影响最广、强度最大的经济衰退。

　　2.Industrial Revolution

　　The Industrial Revolution was the transition to new manufacturing processes in the period from about 1760 to sometime between 1820 and 1840. This transition included going from hand production methods to machines, new chemical manufacturing and iron production processes, improved efficiency of water power, the increasing use of steam power, and the development of machine tools. It also included the change from wood and other bio-fuels to coal.

　　工业革命，又称产业革命，指资本主义工业化的早期历程，即资本主义生产完成了从工厂手工业向机器大工业过渡的阶段。工业革命是以机器取代人力，以大规模工厂化生产取代个体工场手工生产的一场生产与科技革命。由于机器的发明及运用成为了这个时代的标志，因此历史学家称这个时代为“机器时代”。

　　A gold standard is a monetary system in which the standard economic unit of account is based on a fixed quantity of gold.

　　Three types may be distinguished: specie, exchange, and bullion.

　　3.金本位

　　金本位是一种金属货币制度，于19世纪中期开始盛行。在金本位制度下，每单位的货币价值等同于若干含重量的黄金(即货币含金量);当不同国家使用金本位时，国家之间的汇率由它们各自货币的含金量之比值-金平价(Gold Parity)来决定。金本位制总共有三种实现形式：金币本位制、金块本位制和金兑汇本位制，其中金币本位制最具有金本位制的代表性。
