That exhilarating first conversation provided themesPeter and I returned to for the next six years. Howto unleash the creativity and productivity ofknowledge workers? How to create free markets forideas and innovation inside and outside acompany? How to build the organizational agility andflexibility to respond to and to lead change? Peter’sideas have become a part of P&G. His basic rulewas the importance of serving consumers. And he likes to say the purpose of a business is tocreate and serve a customer clean and simple. At P&G we have translated this principleinto respect for the consumer as boss. Consumer-driven strategy, innovation and leadershipare corner stones of P&G success and reflection of the influence Peter has had on me andon our company. The greatest lesson I took away is the over- arching importance of humanity.Peter believed in human possibilities and he was a force for good in world society.
