But first the Philippines authorities have revised down the initial estimate that typhoon Haiyan killed up to ten thousand people as a toll through the islands of central Philippines. The official estimate now stands around 2.5 thousand all five days on since the storm. Serious threats remain-lack of drinking water, medicines and as this young woman described a lack of food.
"We have food for only three to four days. What will we do for the next days? We can survive without these houses. We can sleep anywhere. But we need food, only food."
Governments and aid agencies around the world have launched appeal for donations to help the survivers, as has the United Nations. It's asked for an initial 300 million dollars. Speaking to the BBC today has been John Ging-director of operations of OCHA-the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
"The aid effort is going as fast as we possibly can but of course the scale of the crisis is massive. And the destruction to the infrastructure is what hampering as to get to the people where they most need our assistance. We are pushing very hard on this. "
