Welcome to the latest global news recorded at 14:00 GMT on Wednesday, the 6th ofNovember. I am Maddy Savage with a selection of highlights from across BBC World ServiceNews.

Coming up, Bill de Blasio becomes New York City's mayor, the first democrat to hold the postin 20 years. "I will never stop fighting for the city I love, the city we all love so much." FormerIsraeli foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman is cleared of corruption charges. We'll look at whathis return to government could mean. And several blasts reported in the city in northern China. Also in the podcast, as a new UN report says Peru is now the world's largest cocaine supplier.A former adviser to the country's government says it's time to change the strategy usedagainst traffickers. First then, the city of New York has got a new mayor. Bill de Blasio will replace MichaelBloomberg after winning a landslide victory. "I will never stop fighting for the city I love, thecity we all love so much. And I will never forget that as mayor I work for you." It's a tremendousresult for the democrats as it's the first time they've held the post in the city for 20 years. AndMr. De Blasio has pledged to take New York in a new progressive direction. To find out whatexactly that means, Rozac spoke to Steven Erlanger, the London Bureau chief for the NewYorks Times. "New York is basically a democratic city and in general it votes democratic. Butit's also a very wealthy city and Michael Bloomberg has been frankly more of an independentthan of a republican. But this really is a reversion to New York's democratic roots. And itcomes out of the same instincts that somehow that the rich getting too rich and the city isforgetting the poor. And we need to do more to make life livable in a big city for everyone. Thatwas partly what was going on in New York."
