Police have named and charged a suspect in the Oct. 21 homicide of Detroit synagogue leader Samantha Woll.

Michael Manual Jackson-Bolanos, 28, has been charged by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy with "committing a Felony Murder during the perpetration or attempted perpetration of a larceny and/or a first-degree home invasion," Detroit police said in a statement Wednesday.

He was also charged with "One Count of Home Invasion which a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and one count of Lying to a Peace Officer during a 4 year or more crime investigation, a two-year misdemeanor," police said.

The felony murder charge carries a penalty of life in prison without parole, police said. Jackson-Bolanos was arraigned and remanded to jail in 36th District Court on Wednesday.

Police said there are "no facts to suggest that the homicide was a hate crime." The suspect and Woll did not know each other, police added.

After an "exhaustive" investigation, police allege that Jackson-Bolanos "committed a home invasion when he entered [Woll's] house and stabbed her multiple times causing her death," according to Wednesday's statement. Police also allege that the suspect made "false and misleading" statements to investigators.

Woll, 40, was the Board President of the Isaac Agree Downtown Detroit Synagogue. She was found stabbed to death outside her home in Lafayette Park, Michigan, on Oct. 21.

Officers pronounced Woll dead at the scene. Police found her body with multiple stab wounds after a witness reported seeing her unresponsive on the ground and called 911, PEOPLE reported at the time.
