[00:13.88]An 18-year-old student in California [00:18.05]has used his knowledge of the device [00:21.18]to create his own business. [00:24.14]And he has gained national recognition for his work. [00:28.57]Vincent Quigg is the chief executive officer of TechWorld. [00:34.54]His company is kind of like a hospital for iPhones. [00:39.28]"I'm 18 years old. I'm a college student. [00:42.14]And I'm the CEO and founder of TechWorld, [00:44.41]where we specialize in customizing and repairing iPhones." [00:48.43]Vincent Quigg launched TechWorld while in high school. [00:52.63]"My mom became single a couple of years ago and I had to grow up. [00:57.36]And in order to keep my lifestyle, [00:59.32]I had to find different ways [01:01.18]to stay financially ahead of the game [to] keep my phone, [01:04.70]keep a car, transportation and all that stuff. [01:08.17]So I had to find ways to be entrepreneurial." [01:11.13]An organization called the Network [01:13.95]for Teaching Entrepreneurship, or NFTE, [01:17.56]helped the young man get started. [01:20.13]Both he and his mother, Carla Quigg, [01:23.04]admit that he had a hard time developing a business plan. [01:27.55]"He quit the class, which I was very disappointed." [01:32.28]"It was extremely hard for myself to find a business [01:34.99]to start and run with it. [01:36.40]But once I had that 'aha moment' or what I knew I wanted to go with, [01:40.42]it was really easy and extremely fun." [01:42.83]At the time, Vincent worked for the electronics store BestBuy. [01:47.16]He says people always came into the store [01:50.69]with broken electronic devices. [01:53.51]He decided that repairing those devices was what he wanted to do. [01:58.95]He not only re-registered for the NFTE class, [02:03.02]but he also won the organization's national competition [02:07.89]for best young entrepreneur. [02:10.45]Estelle Reyes is executive director for NFTE in Los Angeles. [02:15.68]"He has an incredible gift for presenting himself [02:21.46]and his dreams in a very compelling way [02:24.71]that engages everyone to rally around him." [02:27.88]His business has grown through word-of-mouth. [02:31.79]Vincent says he now fixes up to 10 phones per week. [02:36.61]He earns about $1,500 each month in sales. [02:41.48]Brisa Munoz is one of his satisfied customers. [02:45.94]"I actually looked him up on the Internet [02:48.46]because I had heard so much about this kid, [02:50.48]how he won entrepreneur of the year. [02:53.62]So I looked him up, and I was like, whoo, [02:56.08]I want him to fix my phone.'" [02:57.18]TechWorld has two other employees. [03:01.13]Kacee Wheeler is one of them. [03:03.70]"He's such an amazing kid, [03:05.35]and you always see his wheels turning with ideas every day. [03:09.01]And it's really inspiring for him to be so young [03:11.88]and pushing and have the drive. It's amazing to me." [03:15.44]Kacee Wheeler works on the technical side of the business. [03:19.52]Vincent Quigg now deals with finances and planning. [03:23.64]He says he wants to continue to grow his business. [03:28.14]His biggest goal, he says, has always been to work for himself.
