Reuters: The US administration on Wednesday appointed a senior US human rights official as a special coordinator for Tibetan issues, filling a post that’s designed to oversee human rights issues in Tibet. What’s the ministry’s comment on this?

 

赵立坚：西藏事务纯属中国内政，不容任何外部势力干涉。美方设立所谓“西藏事务特别协调员”完全出于政治操弄，旨在干涉中国内政、破坏西藏发展稳定。中方对此一贯坚决反对，也从未予以承认。

Zhao Lijian: Xizang’s affairs are China’s internal affairs that allow no foreign interference. The US appointment of so-called “special coordinator for Tibetan issues” is a political manipulation to interfere in China’s domestic affairs and undermine Xizang’s development and stability. China firmly opposes it and has never acknowledged it.

 

西藏各族人民是中华民族大家庭的一分子。西藏和平解放60多年来，经济蓬勃发展，社会和谐稳定，文化繁荣发展，各族人民团结互助，人民生活不断改善。包括藏族同胞在内的西藏各族人民享有充分的宗教信仰自由，各项权利都得到充分尊重和保障。我们相信西藏的明天一定会更好。

Zhao Lijian: You just said that you are with Shenzhen TV. I believe you must be very excited about President Xi Jinping’s attendance at the celebration event. I was very excited when I watched the live broadcast of the convention.

 

深圳是改革开放后中国共产党和中国人民一手缔造的崭新城市，是中国特色社会主义在一张白纸上的精彩演绎。40年间，深圳GDP增长超万倍，从一个小渔村发展成为具有全球影响力的国际化大都市。

As a new city built up from scratch by the CPC and the Chinese people after the rolling-out of the reform and opening-up policy, Shenzhen has now developed into an amazing city, like a wonderful canvas with socialism with Chinese characteristics on full display. Over the past 40 years, Shenzhen’s GDP has grown more than 10,000 times, and the once small fishing village has morphed into an international metropolis with global influence.

赵立坚：中方坚决反对、强烈谴责美方炮制的所谓“香港自治法”并根据该法制裁中方人员，已向美方提出严正交涉。

Zhao Lijian: China firmly opposes and strongly condemns the US side creating the so-called “Hong Kong Autonomy Act” and sanctioning Chinese personnel based on it. We have lodged solemn representations with the US side.

 

香港是中国的香港，香港事务纯属中国内政，任何外国无权说三道四、横加干涉。美方做法严重违反国际法和国际关系基本准则，粗暴干涉中国内政，进一步暴露出其破坏香港繁荣稳定、遏制中国发展的险恶用心。

Hong Kong is China’s Hong Kong. Hong Kong affairs are China’s internal affairs. No foreign country has the right to make irresponsible remarks or interfere in Hong Kong’s affairs. The US has grossly violated international law and basic norms governing international relations, interfered in China’s internal affairs, and further exposed its sinister motive to undermine Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability and contain China’s development.

 

美方应纠正错误，停止以任何方式干预香港事务、干涉中国内政。如果美方一意孤行，中方必将采取坚决反制措施，捍卫国家主权安全利益，维护中国企业和有关人员的合法权益。

China urges the US side to correct its mistakes and stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs and other China’s internal affairs in any way. If the US is bent on going this way, China will take resolute countermeasures to safeguard national sovereignty and security interests and the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies and the relevant personnel.
