一.讲的是细节
大多数讲座会开门见山地提出主题，并且在全文不断重复原词或语义，提示主旨。但因为考生对最后听到的内容印象深，就容易被后半段的信息干扰，以偏概全，错把后文细节选为主旨。
例如：TPO14 Lecture2
1. What is the lecture mainly about?
A. Difficulties animals have in regulating their body temperatures
B. How people can affect animals’ microclimates(后文细节 错误选项)
C. Ways of identifying different types of microclimates
D. The importance of microclimates to some animals(正确答案)
分析：讲座后面最后提到人对microclimate的影响，可能会错选B项，但全文主要是说动物和microclimate的关系，应该选D。
二.含有表示对比比较或发展变化的词
如果全文不是通篇的对比，主旨题就不能选有difference，distinction，comparison，similarity等词语的。同样，如果不是通篇按时间顺序讲事件的发展、事物的形成、认识的变化等，主旨题就不能选含有change，history，progression，process，development这些词的选项。
例如：TPO1 Lecture2
1.What does the professor mainly discuss?
A. The difference in age among American mountain ranges(错误选项)
B. The importance of a technique used for dating geological materials(正确答案)
C. The recent discovery of an ancient canyon
D. A comparison of various minerals used for dating(错误选项)
分析：此题并不是全文对比了不同山脉的年龄或是不能矿物质，因此AD选项都不对。
TPO22 Lecture3
23. What is the lecture mainly about'?
A. A proposal to identify all the animals that became extinct dining the Pleistocene epoch
B. A strategy for reintroducing native plants to an ecosystem
C. A process for identifying alternative habitats for large animals(错误选项)
D. A proposal to re-create features of ecosystems of the Pleistocene epoch(正确答案)
分析：本文讲的是大型动物的移居问题，但重点不是识别可替换栖息地的过程，所以不能选C选项的process。
三.单复数混淆
原文本来讲的是一种方法或类别a way或one type，但选项是复数various ways或types这样的词，类似这种单复数混淆的，考生很容易忽视量词而只根据名词判断，导致误选。
例如TPO2 Lecture2
1. What aspect of Manila hemp fibers does the professor mainly discuss in the lecture
A. Similarities between cotton fibers and Manila hemp fibers
B. Various types of Manila hemp fibers(错误选项)
C. The economic importance of Manila hemp fibers
D. A use of Manila hemp fibers(正确答案)
分析：本文没有讲多种Manila hemp，不能因为文中提到Manila hemp的多种特性，就错选B选项的various types。
