三、形容词的“超过”比较

1.比较级+than

（1）than 句式中必须用比较级

People in the country are happier than people in the city.乡下的人们比城市的人们更快乐。

It is colder this year than （it was）last year.今年比去年冷。

Sue is more beautiful than Jane.苏比珍更美。

The computer is more expensive than the typewriter.计算机比打字机贵。

【比较】

①Which is the more useful （metal），iron or gold？ 铁和金，哪一个比较有用些？

②Iron is the more useful （metal）of the two.铁是两者中比较有用的。

（2）比较级的修饰语

a bit，a lot，a great deal，a little，by far，even，far，much，rather，slightly，still，yet，

倍数，分数，百分数以及数词等；

The room is a bit larger than that one.这个房间比那个稍大一点.

This is a great deal better than that.这个比那个好多了。

They’re a little better now.现在他们稍好一点儿了。

It’s slightly colder today than it was yesterday.今天比昨天稍冷一点。

Today was even colder than yesterday.今天比昨天还要冷。

Let’s go by car.It’s much cheaper.咱们开车去。这样便宜得多。

He is fat，but his brother is still fatter.他很胖，但他哥哥更胖。

China is one-sixth larger than the United States.中国比美国大六分之一。

This restaurant is rather more expensive than that.这家餐厅比那家贵得多。

There are far more people than we expected.人比我们预计的多得多。

She is by far the better actress.她是个更好的女演员。

【提示】

①rather可以修饰比较级，但fairly不能；

②very不能修饰比较级，但much和very much可以；

③by far 可以修饰比较级和最高级，前置时要在定冠词之前。

2.“more ...than”句式，意为“是……而不是……；与其……不如……”

She is more wise than diligent.与其说她勤勉不如说她聪明。

I was more disappointed than discouraged.我是失望，而不是泄气。

He is more a sprinter than a swimmer.他是短跑健将，而不是游泳选手。

I am more frightened than hurt.我吓坏了但没有受伤。

3.“no+比较级+than”句式，对比较的两个对象进行否定

no better than=as bad as 与……一样不好

no earlier than=as late as 与……与一样迟

no faster than=as slow as 与……一样不快

no taller than=as short as 与……一样不高

He is no cleverer than her.他与她一样不聪明。

He’s no richer than a beggar.他穷如乞丐。

He is no taller than me.他同我一样不高。

His English is no better than mine.他的英语同我的英语一样不好。

You are no more careful than he is.你和他一样不仔细。

He is no more generous than John.他和约翰一样不大方。

【比较】

①I have no more than ten dollars.我只有10块钱。（no more than 仅仅）

②I have not more than ten dollars.我最多也不过10块钱。（not more than不超过）

4.“the+比较级，the+比较级”句式，意为“ 越……就越……”。

The older we grow，the poorer our memory will become.年龄越大，记忆力越差。

The more careful you are，the fewer mistakes you will make.

你愈小心，你犯错就会愈少。

The more I learn，the less I feel I know.学而后知不足。

The better the boy （is），the more I like him.这男孩愈好，我愈喜欢他。

The colder the weather （is），the more comfortable my life （will be）.

天气愈冷，我的生活就愈舒服。

The more haste，the less speed.欲速则不达。

More profit and less honor.舍名逐利。

The sooner，the better.事不宜迟。

The more you have，the more you want.拥有愈多，欲望愈高。

The more you beat iron，the harder it grows.铁不炼不成钢，玉不琢不成器。

5.“比较级+and+比较级……”句式，表示“越来越……”

（1）-er比较级+and+-er比较级

She is growing fatter and fatter.她越来越胖了。

Things are getting better and better every day.情况一天天好起来。

The days are getting longer and longer.白天越来越长了。

（2）more+and+more+原级

It’s becoming more and more difficult to find a job.找工作越来越困难了。

English is becoming more and more important.英语越来越重要了。

One reason is that the tickets are more and more expensive.原因之一是票价越来越高。

6.特殊“超过”句式

be senior to 比……年龄大（类似于be older than）

be junior to 比……年轻（类似于be younger than）

be superior to 比……优秀（类似于be better than）

be inferior to 比……差（类似于be worse than）

I am five years senior to Jane.我比简大五岁。

Jane is five years junior to me.简比我小五岁。

This computer is superior to the one you bought.这台电脑比你买的要好。

This photo is inferior to that one.这张照片比那张差。
