一、“名词+’s”所有格

1.“名词+’s”所有格的构成

（1）“名词+’s”所有格通常在名词后加’s。

the little girl’s dolls 小女孩的玩具 Tom’s piano 汤姆的钢琴

【提示】 词尾是s的单数名词，加“’”或“’s”所有格。

Charles’ bag=Charles’s bag 查理的包 the boss’ plan=the boss’s plan 老板的计划

（2）词尾是s的复数名词和专有名词只加“’”。

the boys’ house 男孩们的房子 Dickens’ novels 狄更斯的小说

（3）词尾不是s的复数名词加“’s”。

the children’s room 孩子的房间 women’s dress 妇女的衣服

【提示】

（1）如果某物为两人共有，只在后一个名词的词尾加“’s”所有格。

Lucy and Lily’s room 露西和莉莉的房间（两人共同的房间）

Mary and John’s father 玛丽和约翰的父亲（二人为兄妹）

（2）如果表示各自的所有关系，每个名词词尾后都加“’s”所有格。

Lucy’s and Lily’s rooms 露西和莉莉（各自）的房间

Mary’s and John’s fathers 玛丽和约翰（各自）的父亲

2.“名词+’s”所有格的用法

（1）多用于表示有生命的人或动物的名词中，构成所有关系。

Jim’s bike 吉姆的自行车 Mary’s skirt 玛丽的裙子

（2）用于“时间、空间、距离、价格、重量、天体等”无生命的名词中，构成所有关系。

a mile’s distance 一英里的距离　　　　　　America’s policy 美国的政策

one pound’s weight 一磅的重量　　　　　 　the book’s author 这本书的作者

the city’s population 这个城市的人口　　　the earth’s surface 地球表面

the government’s policy 政府的政策　　　　the majority’s view 多数人的观点

the station’s waiting-room 车站候车室　　 tomorrow’s weather 明天的天气

two days’ journey 两天的旅程　　　　　　　twenty dollars’ value 20美元的价值

（3）用于节假日专有名词中

April Fool’s Day 愚人节　　　Children’s Day 儿童节　　　Father’s Day 父亲节

Mother’s Day 母亲节　　　　　New Year’s Day 元旦　　　　Teachers’ Day 教师节

Valentine’s Day 情人节　　　 Women’s Day 妇女节

（4）else的所有格是“else’s”

He was wearing someone else’s coat.他穿着别人的外套。

It couldn’t be anybody else’s.那不可能是别人的。

【比较】

Who else’s fault could it be？ 这会是其他什么人的错吗？（who else’s可接名词）

I don’t know who else’s/whose else it could be.

我不知道那是别的什么人的。（whose else一般不接名词）

（5）用于某些固定表达中

a bird’s eye view 鸟瞰　　　　　　　　a stone’s throw 一箭之遥

at a snail’s pace 缓慢地　　　　　　　at arm’s length 以一臂之距

at one’s wit’s end 黔驴技穷　　　　　 by a hair’s breadth 千钧一发

in one’s mind’s eye 在某人的心目中　　out of harm’s way 在安全的地方

3.“名词+’s”所有格中名词的省略

（1）名词在“名词+’s”所有格中再次出现时，可以省略。

The kite is not mine，but John’s （kite）.风筝不是我的而是约翰的。

She put her arm through her husband’s （arm）.她挽着丈夫的手臂。

（2）“名词+’s”所有格表示店铺、医院、学校、住宅、办公场所时，可以省略。

at the doctor’s （office） 在医院　　　at Tom’s （home）在汤姆家

at my uncle’s （house） 在叔叔家　　　 at the tailor’s （shop）在裁缝店

at the butcher’s （shop） 在肉铺　　　 at the barber’s （shop）在理发店

Yesterday I met him again at the barber’s （shop）.昨天我又在理发店遇上他了。

You are expected in the manager’s （office）.请你去一趟经理办公室。
