Dear Timothy,

How’s my old buddy? It’s been a long time. I have a big favor to ask of you. I need some money fast. I’ve got a great deal in the works, but I have to have another $6,000 to see it through. I tried to borrow it from Richard, but he wouldn’t give it to me. He claimed he didn’t have that much. It’s his loss. If you lend the money to me, not only can I guarantee I’ll pay you back by the end of the year, but I’ll throw in $2,500 in interest. But I have to have it immediately.

字词解说：

1. favor 恩惠

ask a favor of sb 请某人帮忙

例:I don't like to ask favors of others unless it'sabsolutely necessary.

(除非绝对必要，不然我不喜欢请别人帮忙。)

2. see sth through完成某事

侧:Once you start something, you should see it through.

(一旦开始某事，你就应该完成它。)

3. clain 宣称

claim+that从句宣称……

例:Walter claims that his father is a friend of the president.

4. not only... but (also)…不但·一而且……

注意:

not only由于是否定副词的关系，若置于主句之前，该句子要

采用倒装结构，但but also则为连接词，所连接的第二个句子

不须倒装，而also要移至该句子之中，或予省略。

例:Not only did he buy his daughter an apartment, but he also gave her furniture to go with it.

(他不仅买一栋公寓给他的女儿，而且还给她配备了家具。)

5. throw in.二额外赠送……

例:If you buy this computer now, I' 11 throw in that printer free of charge.
