A: The Statue of Liberty, I need to do some research about it.

B: It was presented by the people of France to the people of the United States in 1886 to honor the friendship between the two nations. Nowadays we consider it to be a symbol of liberty throughout the world.

A: Yes, and America couldn't have been liberated from Britain without the help of the French. Wow! It says here chat more than 5 million people visit the statue every year. That's a lot of people.

B:It's a very popular symbol to many, nowhere else on earth is the concept and ideals of personal freedom as dramatically.

A: That is huge. What's it made from? lr often looks like stone in the pictures.

B:Actually, the statue is made from steel coated with copper and the pedestal is made from granite.

A:I see. Who was it designed by? I guess it must have been a French designer.

B:You're right. It was designed by Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi, but the interior framework was designed by Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel, also designer of the Eiffel Tower.
