[00:15.23]They had a simple motto hanging on heir living-room wall: [00:18.40]“Life is like a field of newly fallen snow; [00:21.57]where I choose to walk every step will show.” [00:24.20]They didn’t have to talk about it—they demonstrated the motto by the way they lived. [00:29.67]They understood instinctively that integrity means [00:33.83]having a personal standard of morality and ethics [00:36.67]that does not sell out to selfishness and that is not relative to the situation at hand. [00:42.25]Integrity is an inner standard for judging your behavior. [00:45.86]Unfortunately,integrity is in short supply today—and getting scarcer. [00:50.90]But it is the real bottom line in every area of society. [00:54.73]And it is something we must demand of ourselves. [00:57.68]A good test for this value is to look at what I call the Integrity Trial, [01:02.71]which consists of three key principles: [01:05.23]Stand firmly for your convictions in the face of personal pressure. [01:43.09]Don’t engage in a personal cover-up of areas that are unpleasing in your life. [01:47.89]When it’s tough, do it tough. In other words, [01:51.40]face reality and be adult in your responses to life’s challenges. [01:55.34]Self-respect and a clear conscience are powerful components of integrity [02:00.37]and are the basis for enriching your relationships with others. [02:03.87]Integrity means you do what you do because it’s right [02:08.14]and not just fashionable or politically correct. [02:10.88]A life of principle, of not giving in to the seductive sirens of easy morality, [02:16.79]will always win the day.
