劳伦斯（D. H. Lawrence，1885-1930），英国二十世纪初期小说家和诗人。生于诺丁汉郡的一个矿区，从小感受到人世间复杂而微妙的情感关系以及工业文明对人的心灵和感情的摧残。他的诗作锋利、直率，感觉敏锐、细腻，常抨击上层社会的精神空虚，探察原始的大自然与人的关系。在语言形式上他的诗突破了传统诗歌的桎梏，自由地表达诗人的直觉，使语言、经验和情感浑然一体，流畅而舒展，有一种动感和内在的韵律，令人深思和回味。

一个女子对我温柔地唱歌，在傍晚，

Softly, in the dusk, a woman is singing to me;

So now it is vain for the singer to burst into clamour

With the great black piano appassionato. The glamour

把我攫住了。我的成年岁月被抛入

Of childish days is upon me, my manhood is cast

Down in the flood of remembrance, I weep like a child for the past.
