North China scene:

A thousand li of land is sealed in ice

And still more caught in falling snowflakes.

I see, over both sides of the Great Wall,

Nothing but immense whiteness;

Up and down the great river,

Waves lost in the freeze.

The mountains, dancing like silver serpents

And the highlands, racing like waxed elephants,

Vie to loom over the heavenly vault.

Soon, all will clear up,

To be clad in red sun shines,

What a sight.

Our land, so rich in beauty,

Inspires so many heroes to dedicate their lives to it.

But Qin Huang and Han Wu

Are not as cultured;

Tang Zong and Song Zu

Not as literate.

Even Genghis Khan,

The proud son of heaven,

Only knows how to bend his bow to shoot a falcon.

While they are all gone to this day,

The true heroes,
