双语笑话：律师与农场主

The Lawyer and the Rancher

A big-city lawyer was representing the railroad in a lawsuit filed by an old rancher．The rancher’s bull was missing from the section through which the railroad passed．The rancher claimed that the bull must have been hit by the train，and wanted to be paid the fair value of the bull．

The case was scheduled to be tried before the justice of the peace in the backroom of the general store．

As soon as the rancher showed up，the attorney for the railroad pulled him aside and tried to get him to settle out of court．The lawyer did his best selling job，and finally the rancher agreed to take half of what he was asking．

After the rancher had signed the release and took the check，the young lawyer couldn’t resist gloating a little over his success，telling the rancher，“You know，I hate to tell you this，old man，but I put one over on you in there．I couldn’t have won the case．The engineer was asleep and the fireman was in the caboose when the train went through your ranch that morning．I didn’t have one witness to put on the stand．I bluffed you！”

The old rancher replied，“Well，I’ll tell you，young feller．I was a little worried about winning that case myself，because that darned bull came home this morning．

律师与农场主

来自大城市的一位律师受铁路方面委托，与一位农场主打官司。后者的一头公牛经过铁路线后就失踪了。农场主认为他的牛一定是被火车撞死了，要求铁路方面给与公正的赔偿。

该案件将由治安法官在当地百货商店的里间进行审判。

农场主刚到，铁路方面的律师就把他拉到一旁，希望能和他达成庭外和解。律师的口才非常出色，最终农场主同意把赔偿额减少一半。

农场主在放弃上诉的文件上签字，拿到支票以后，年轻的律师情不自禁地想夸耀自己的成功。他告诉农场主道：“你知道，老人家，我本来不想告诉你这些，但我确实欺骗了你。按理我是打不赢这场官司的。那天早上，当火车穿过你农场的时候，司机正在睡觉，而司炉工却在最后一节车厢里。因此，我们没有目击证人。我欺骗了你！”

老农场主答道：“好吧，我也告诉你，年轻人，我对自己能否打赢这场官司也不是很有把握，因为今天早上那头该死的牛回来了。”
