Apple’s next generation of Mac computers will reportedly be ditching Intel’s processors for the first time in 16 years.

The laptops and desktops that Apple will put out in 2021 will have main processors based on the homemade chips it uses in its iPhones and iPads, Bloomberg reported Thursday.

Apple is working on three different processors for its Mac line based on the A14 processor that will power the next-generation iPhone, suggesting that its longstanding partnership with Intel is coming to an end.

Apple started using Intel’s processors in 2006, and a year later all Macs featured its chips. In the ensuing years, Intel has made chips for other products, including the iPhone.

Apple has traditionally relied on outside suppliers for its modem chips, a crucial part that connects devices to wireless data networks.
