The death toll from a landslide in southwestern China's Guizhou Province has risen from 15 to 20, as five more bodies were recovered, a local fire department official confirmed on Friday.

The bodies of three children and two women were respectively pulled out by firefighters overnight.

Search and rescue operations continue in the region for another 25 people who are still missing following the incident.

At about 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday, a landslide lashed a village in Shuicheng County, Liupanshui City, burying over 20 houses.

The volume of silt in the landslide was estimated to be more than 2 million cubic meters.

According to the local authority, 23 households with a total number of 77 people were in the affected area. Among them, 21 people were not in the village when the landslide occurred.
