A primary school principal in north China hasbecome the latest internet celebrity for bustingsome cool moves during a morning exercise routinewith his students.

中国北方一位小学校长因为早操和学生一起跳起酷炫舞步成为新晋网红。

Every morning, 40-year-old principal Zhang Pengfeiat the Xi Guan Primary School in Linyi county, Shanxiprovince would lead about 700 pupils on theplayground in a synchronised 'ghost shuffle' routine- a dance that incorporates contemporary jazzsteps with heel, toe and arm movements.

每天早上，陕西临沂西关小学校长，40岁的张鹏飞带领700名小学生在操场上跳“鬼步舞”，“鬼步舞”是一种融合当代爵士、脚跟、脚尖和上肢同时舞动的舞蹈。

The bold headmaster thought the fun and energetic exercise routine would betterencourage students to get active instead of 'being glued to their mobile phones'.

The school's new 30-minute dance routine has replaced the government-imposed broadcastcallisthenics programme, a short workout that has been a requirement at every primary, middle and secondary school in China since 1951.

每天30分钟的舞蹈时间代替原来政府要求做的广播体操，广播体操中国从1951年起对全国小学和中学要求的必做课间锻炼项目。

'I thought we needed a change because the students have been losing interest in doing thebroadcast callisthenics routine,' Zhang told Southern Metropolis News.

张鹏飞告诉《南方都市报》：“我觉得我们需要一些变化，学生对广播体操越来越没兴趣了。”

The dedicated principal said he came across a group of people doing the ghost shuffle routineat a public plaza last summer and decided to learn the dance himself.

这位敬业的校长说他是去年夏天在广场上偶然看到有人在跳鬼步舞，然后决定自己先学习。

'I thought the dance would be great for kids,' he said. 'The music is full of energy and it reallygets the happy feeling flowing.'

In October, he introduced the choreographed routine to all of his students and shortly after, even teachers and staff were joining in.

'Now the students aren't constantly on their phones. I sometimes catch them watchingdifferent dance routine videos and learning new moves!' the proud headmaster told reporters.

The video quickly went viral on Chinese social media, with a Weibo topic page titled 'principalleads students in ghost dance routine' gathering 250 million views.

'This is perhaps the best adaption of sport and entertainment for children,' a comment onWeibo read.

'This is the coolest headmaster ever! I wish he would teach me,' one user said.
