吴小晖、肖建华曾有意收购日本新生银行股份

JC Flowers is looking to sell its remaining 20 per cent-plus stake in Shinsei Bank, the Japanese lender that the US group resurrected and turned around in one of global private equity’s most lucrative deals.

美国公司JC Flowers正考虑出售其在日本新生银行(Shinsei Bank)剩余的逾20%的股份。JC Flowers收购新生银行后，该行东山再起、扭亏为盈，这笔交易可谓全球私人股本领域最赚钱的交易之一。

Late last year JC Flowers’ executives received expressions of interest from Wu Xiaohui, the founder of Anbang Insurance and entered into talks with him, according to four people with direct knowledge of the matter. But before the two sides could come close to an agreement, Mr Wu discontinued the discussions.

He has since been detained by authorities and Chinese regulators have clamped down on outbound dealmaking by Anbang and several other high-profile, privately owned conglomerates. Anbang declined to comment.

People familiar with the matter said that Xiao Jianhua, the mainland billionaire, also expressed interest in the JC Flowers stake in Shinsei before he was abducted from the Four Seasons hotel in Hong Kong at the end of January. People briefed on the matter said Mr Xiao approached at least one Hong Kong-based investment group to gauge interest in a bid for that stake in Shinsei.

知情人士表示，中国内地亿万富豪肖建华也曾表示有兴趣收购JC Flowers在新生银行的股份，后来今年1月底，他在香港四季酒店(Four Seasons)被带走。据听过此事简报的人士表示，肖建华接洽了至少一家总部位于香港的投资集团，以求判断出人们对收购新生银行股份的兴趣。

He also approached JC Flowers executives directly over another deal, proposing to take over their stake in Jie Sun Financial Holdings in Taipei, the people said. His spokesman could not be reached for comment.

这位知情人士表示，肖建华还就另一笔交易直接接洽了JC Flowers高管，他提出购入JC Flowers在台北日盛金控(Jih Sun Financial Holding)的股份。记者未能联系上肖建华的发言人请其置评。

Despite these initial setbacks JC Flowers is still on the hunt for potential buyers.

However, the timing is not optimal, for several reasons. Almost all Japanese banks have seen their profitability eroded by the Bank of Japan’s zero-interest rate policy which has left little room for any difference between what they pay out on deposits and what they can earn on lending.
