Taiwan has been forced to scramble jets and navyships as a group of Chinese warships led by China’ssole aircraft carrier sailed north through the TaiwanStrait, the latest sign of heightened tensionsbetween Beijing and the self-ruled Taiwan.

China distrusts Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen and has stepped up pressure on her after U.S.President-elect Donald Trump broke years of diplomatic protocol and took a congratulatorycall last month from Tsai.
