New Driving Forces for Chinas Economy

Peoples Tribune

Issue 18, 2020

As all major economies are projected to experience negative growth in 2020, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said that Chinas economy is expected to grow 1.0 percent in its update for the World Economic Outlook report released in June. The projection has aroused great interest in Chinas economic trends at home and abroad.

While leaving a heavy toll on the economy, the COVID-19 epidemic spawned many new driving forces and business models in China.

Manufacturers and service providers have fully used online platforms, creating new models to deliver goods and provide services, spurring new demands, and realizing business growth.

In 2020, China has further sped up the building of “new infrastructure” projects, giving a boost to the adjustment of economic structure and the upgrading of industrial technology.

Economic activities based on cloud computing technology are on the rise. Great headway has also been made in leveraging the economic potential of the Internet, big data, and artificial intelligence. Government support, the increasingly improving information infrastructure, and rapidly expanding digital economy are propping up Chinas“cloud economy.”

All these signs show that Chinas economy is resilient and strong enough to withstand difficulties.

Boosting Rural Development through Industrial Prosperity

Minsheng Weekly

Issue 16, 2020

This year has been set for the country to win the battle against poverty in an all-around way. Prosperous industries are the foundation for rural revitalization. However, industrial development cant be achieved overnight. It should be based on local resource conditions, backed by policies, and sustained by local people who are energized to contribute.

Boosting agricultural businesses is a top priority in pursuing rural revitalization, said Song Hongyuan, a researcher with the Research Center for Rural Economy under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. In his opinion, industrial prosperity is the basis for healthy and sustainable development of various undertakings in rural areas.

In recent years, Chinas new rural industries and new forms of business have gained booming development. To further develop these industries, leading enterprises should be nurtured to build leading brands.

Meanwhile, based on development needs of the new industries and new business forms in rural areas, efforts should be made to cultivate local managerial talents, trying to build a team of entrepreneurs with innovative ideas and new concepts.

China should promote the integration of small farmers and modern agricultural development, and establish a scientific and effective interest linkage mechanism through various ways, such as the transfer of management rights, stock cooperation, and land trusteeship, thus enabling farmers to participate in the process of modernization on equal terms and share the fruits of modernization.

Aging Adaptation Remodeling, an Urgent Task

Globe

Issue 16, 2020

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, by the end of 2019, Chinas population aged 60 and above had reached 250 million, accounting for 18.1 percent of Chinas total population. A considerable number of senior citizens reside in old-fashioned and worn-out residential quarters. Concerns including poor adaptability for the aged, traffic difficulties, and lack of space for activities have become increasingly acute.

On July 15, the Ministry of Civil Affairs and nine other departments, in coalition, issued the guiding opinions on accelerating aging adaptation remodeling projects.

It is a very professional assignment to manufacture products suitable for the elderly and carry out aging adaptation renovation projects. Remodeling of buildings, renovation of home decorations, and installment of intelligent appliances are the focus of aging adaptation.

In China, the aging adaptation industry is still quite new. The production and installation costs of special accessory parts for the senior population have persistently remained high over a long period, which not only swells the living cost for the elderly, but also heightens the enterprise costs.

In order to adapt to the needs of the massive residential environment transformation, administrative institutions need to appropriately hoist the proportion of public expenditure in this field. Meanwhile, it is necessary to also draft concrete implementation plans and introduce supervisory measures to provide a stable policy environment for the remodeling that is suitable for the aging population.

Striding Toward Smart Sporting Activity

Xinmin Weekly

Issue 29, 2020

The prolonged pandemic is presenting Chinas sports industry with an unprecedented “cold current,” and at the same time also breeding the integrated development of science and technology and sports.

New technical applications have mushroomed in the sports industry. The emerging “smart court” mode hews another novel means for the industry. Stepping onto the smart court, youll find the whole court connected with the video monitoring center. The administrator can remotely control the broadcast and lighting without having to enter the site.

A wide array of services including mobile phone charging, shopping, and requesting can be achieved via video calls and completed with just the click of a button. The government demands reconstruction of 100-plus public sports venues in light of the smart model in two or three years.

Compared with the smart court, the intelligent management system with more extensive coverage and reinforced functions refreshes the publics understanding of technological transformation. Under the background of epidemic prevention and control, the Shanghai Sports Bureau, in alliance with the municipal big data center, has introduced new measures to simplify the quarantine process.

Certainly, the tentacles of science and technology are also extending into the wider realm of sports. Recently, Pong bot, the worlds first AI robot that can serve with a racket, was produced in China Table Tennis College. Not only can it serve and strike the ball, it can also analyze the trajectory of the table tennis ball and capture the posture of athletes, like an instructor.
