Spring Festival Travel Rush Kicks off

The 2020 Spring Festival travel rush kicks off on January 10 and will end on February 28. This year, over 440 million passengers are expected to travel, an increase of 32.57 million yearon-year. The daily average number of passengers is estimated to be around 11 million, among which the flow of students, migrant workers, and family visits before the festival is highly overlapped, and the passenger flow is relatively concentrated.

According to China Railways, 81 “slow trains” will continue to run during the Spring Festival so as to facilitate the travel of people residing in old revolutionary base areas and povertystricken areas.

D-series high-speed trains are still the main means of transporting passengers during the travel rush, and the proportion of passengers transported by the D-series trains is expected to reach over 63 percent of the total.

The Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-speed Railway was put into operation in December 2019. The travel time from Beijing to the Zhangjiakou Winter Olympic Games area by high-speed rail has been shortened to just an hour, and all prefecture-level cities in Hebei Province will have access to high-speed rail.

Autonomous, smart driving systems will be in operation on the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Highspeed Railway.

Winning the Poverty Alleviation Battle in 2020

China has devoted immense efforts to win the battle of poverty alleviation. In 2019, from the central government to local authorities, China focused on addressing deep poverty. By the end of 2019, more than 90 percent of the poor counties in China cast off the shackles of poverty, and about 95 percent of the poverty-afflicted population had risen out of poverty.

This indicates that the decisive battle against poverty has reached the critical stage and final victory draws nearer. After another years efforts through 2020, the remaining five percent of the poor will shake off grinding poverty. The problem of absolute poverty that has plagued the Chinese nation for thousands of years will be solved.

In 2019, all regions and government departments focused on solving the daunting difficulties that the public were most concerned about. By now, the centralized water supply rate in rural areas has reached 86 percent. More farmers in poor mountain villages have access to clean drinking water, live in safe houses, and dont have to travel far to access medical services. The financial burden of serious diseases has been reduced, and the basic living standards of the poor have been significantly improved.

Chinas Forest Resources Grow the Most in the World

Chinas forest coverage has increased from 12.7 percent in the early 1970s to 22.96 percent in 2018. The forested area has reached 220 million hectares, and the forest stock has reached 17.56 billion cubic meters. The area and stock have maintained double digit growth for more than 30 consecutive years, the highest growth of forest resources in the world.

In recent years, China has continuously strengthened the protection and management of forest resources, and forest quality and ecological function have been improved markedly. The total carbon reserves of forest vegetation are 8.98 billion tons, the annual water conservation is 628.95 billion cubic meters, and the annual fixed soil is 8.75 billion tons.

The supervision over logging has been continuously optimized, the zero quota of commercial logging of natural forest has been implemented, and the consumption of natural forest resources has been reduced by 34 million cubic meters every year. Forest management has been strengthened in an all-round way. The structure of forest resources has been gradually optimized, the quality has been effectively improved, and the function has been continuously enhanced.

China has promoted the innovation of forest resource management, and for the first time established a large database with unified standards.

Chinas Marine GDP Increased in 2019

Chinas marine GDP in the first three quarters of 2019 was nearly RMB 6.4 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 6.3 percent.

The traditional marine industry is operating smoothly. The marine transportation industry maintained steady growth, with the coastal and ocean freight volume increasing by 8.5 percent and 10.1 percent respectively year-on-year; marine oil and gas production continued to grow, with the national offshore crude oil and natural gas production increasing by 2.3 percent and five percent respectively year-on-year.

The effect of structural adjustment of emerging marine industries is obvious. For the first time in 2019, the order delivery of offshore engineering equipment manufacturing industry increased year-on-year.

Maritime foreign trade has improved, and economic and trade exchanges with countries along the Maritime Silk Road have become increasingly close. Chinas total sea freight import and export volume with these countries increased by 3.1 percent year on year, of which the export volume increased by 4.3 percent and the import volume increased by 1.2 percent.
