San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is a small island located along a rocky coast. It is connected to the mainland by a man-made bridge 150 meters above sea level. Here, a long staircase of 241 stone steps on the steep hillside leads to the top if the island where there is a small church. The original church was first built in the 9th century and dedicated to St. John the Baptist. Legend has it that if you ring the church bell three times after hiking there and making a wish, your wish will come true. What makes Gaztelugatxe such a scenic spot is the stone bridge connecting the island to the mainland.
