Barron Falls

The most popular attraction of the Cairns area is the steep waterfalls on the Barron River. There are a number of places where visitors can take pictures of the waterfalls, but the best viewing spot is on Skyrail - a 7.5 km cable car over the rainforest.

Apart from Kakadu, the neighboring Lichfield National Park is the most famous with the Wangi Falls. The 84-meter waterfall flows down through a series of segmented floors and has lovely rest areas, nice walking trails and safe swimming pools.

The special feature of the Horizontal Falls is that they are located along the coast. As huge tidal waves rush through two narrow canals, they create waterfalls up to 5 m high. During each tidal change, the direction of Horizontal Falls reverses, creating extensive tidal swirls. Some small areas within the falls are available for swimming but it’s not that safe.
