The boat that takes Peruvian tourists to the upper reaches of the river full of boiling water usually comes from the small border town Honoria, about 3 hours by car from Pucallpa, the nearest major city.

The indigenous name of the river of death is Shanay-Timpishka, which translates as "Where the Sun Burns" in the Asháninka dialect. According to today's research, the water's temperature is below 100 ° C - not hot to boil, but certainly hot enough to kill any organism that would venture into it.

What he discovered was the river in the legend of his childhood: a river with boiling water existed, a place so hot that any animal that unfortunately fell into it was instantly boiled.
