Billionaires in India and China outperformed their US peers this year, according to the Forbes rich list. Their fortunes rose sharply a year on from the global financial crisis, underscoring the rebound of the world's two biggest emerging economies.

《福布斯》(Forbes)富豪榜显示，印度和中国亿万富豪今年的表现强于美国富豪。全球金融危机爆发一年后，中印富豪的财富大幅增长，彰显出全球两大新兴经济体的反弹力度。

In 2009 China's 100 richest have seen their net worth nearly double to $170bn, from $89.4bn last year, and India's top 100 reached $276bn, up more than 50 per cent. The total net worth of the 100 richest Americans fell 18 per cent, though they were still the wealthiest national group with $775bn.

2009年，中国富豪榜前100名的资产净值接近翻倍，由去年的894亿美元增至1700亿美元。印度前100名富豪的净资产总和为2760亿美元，增幅逾50%。美国前100名富豪的净资产则下降18%，但总数仍是各国中最高的，为7750亿美元。

The number of Chinese billionaires, up from 24 to 79, grew faster than in India, which rose to 52 from 27. But the net worth of China's richest man, Wang Chuanfu – $5.8bn – was less than a fifth that of his Indian counterpart.

Mukesh Ambani, head of Reliance Industries, India's biggest listed company, hit the top of the Indian list at $32bn, beating his brother and arch-rival Anil Ambani and Lakshmi Mittal, the London-based billionaire.

Indian billionaires were helped by the strong performance of the local markets. Mumbai's Sensex index has risen 75 per cent so far this year as foreign investors have poured $15bn into local equity markets. The government forecasts economic growth of more than 6 per cent for the year.

The US's 371 billionaires have suffered with its economy. Bill Gates's fortune dropped by $7bn to $50bn compared with 2008, while Warren Buffet's net worth fell 20 per cent to $40bn.
