College students should be encouraged to pursue subjects that interest them rather than the courses that seem most likely to lead to jobs.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position.

（1）你认为每一个大学生都应该追求自己感兴趣的学科吗？哪些兴趣爱好应该得到鼓励，而哪些则不应该鼓励呢？例如：积极向上的、对人类发展有利的兴趣是可以追求的，反之，低俗的、损人不利己的兴趣则不应该追求。

（4）大学与研究所有什么不同之处？它们分别负责培养哪类人才？例如：大学注重学生的全面发展，致力于培养复合型人才，学生可以根据自己的兴趣选修不同的课程；研究所则致力于学术研究，培养科研人才。

（5）就个人而言，你更倾向于追求自己的兴趣，还是寻找一个合适的工作？为什么？

现在你不感兴趣的学科，当你对它进行深入的钻研（ delve into）后，可能会开始引起你的兴趣；而现在你认为更加有前途的学科四年后可能变得过于拥挤，以至于你会发现在那个领域找工作也很难。

The same subject that you now find uninteresting may begin to engage your interest when you delve deep into it; and the same subject that you now think is more promising may become so overcrowded four years later that you may also find it hard to seek a job in that field.

Many parents in China try to improve their children's performance at school with every means at their disposal: punishing them when they rank too low or promising rewards if they reach certain target. But in fact, the most excellent students are usually those who are eager to learn even without external motivation; for most of them, interest is the strongest incentive.
