容易误译的英语:little people

little people这个词语在特定语言环境下很容易使人误译，那么你觉得little people应该怎么翻译呢?little people的原意又是什么呢?

［例句］　He suspected that there are little people living at the end of the garden.

［误译］　他怀疑花园的尽头没有多少人 住。

［原意］　他怀疑花园的尽头住有小妖精 。

［说明］　little people与fairies同义，意为“（神话中的）小妖精（们）”。如果知道people作“人”解时是个复数名词而非不可数名词，就不会把little people译作“没有多少人”，因为little作“没有多少”解时只能修饰不可数名词。所以little people中的little作“小的”解才对。
