Traveler(T):旅客

T: I'm going to Sydney on vacation with my family. You often fly to Sydney, so you must know something interesting about it, don't you?

A: Yes. Sydney is a very beautiful city that is worth visiting. What are you planning to do on the trip?

* * *

T: The first thing I will do is to visit the Sydney Opera House. I've seen some pictures and I think the architecture is out of this world!

A: That's true. It looks like a boat with huge white sails floating in the harbor. It's a beautiful sight surrounded by the clear blue sky and sea. What a magical place to enjoy a concert!

* * *

T: We've planned to watch a performance there. What show do you recommend?

A: There are a variety of shows. I'm not sure about what will be on during your visit. You'd better check the program schedule on its website.

* * *

T: All right. Are there any other interesting places?

A: Why not go to the Australian Reptile Park where you can see many strange looking animals that are native only to Australia. You can also take a train ride to the outside of Sydney to visit animal parks that have koala bears and kangaroos running freely in eucalyptus forests.

* * *

T: Oh, I love koalas because they are so cute. I will surly go to those parks. By the way, where can we taste some delicious food?

A: Hmm, Let me see. I think you should go to the XX. This region has fabulous fresh seafood restaurants. But that's not the best part.

* * *

T: I can't imagine what could be better than tasting delicious fresh fish, prawns and crabs.

A: Well, you can try your hand at catching your own lunch! There're boats and fishing equipment to rent and places to buy your bait.

* * *

T: Really? That sounds like a fun way to have a meal!

A: Yes, and there are other very interesting places where you can enjoy yourself. Sydney is really a city for tourism.

A: Can I help you, sir?

T: I feel kind of uncomfortable.

A: What's wrong exactly?

T: My ears are ache.

* * *

A: I see. The plane is descending, please swallow or chew chewing gum as I said.

T: Oh, sorry, I didn't hear you before.

* * *

A: It doesn't matter. You will be better after a while.

T: But why should we do such things when the plane is descending?

* * *

A: Because when the plane is descending, the air pressure will change with the altitude, and the pressure inside and outside your ear will be changing very rapidly, so we should swallow or chew the chewing gum to balance the pressure to reduce the harm to your body.

T: I see. But I don't have chewing gum.

* * *

A: I will bring you some very soon.

T: OK, thank you.

T: Can I listen to some music at the same time?

* * *

A: Yes, you can listen to the public music on the plane, but please don't wear the earphones or else they will aggravate your illness.

T: Alright. Thank you.

* * *

A: You are welcome. I'll bring the chewing gum right now.

T: OK.

好的。

T: Excuse me.

A: Yes, CanI help you?

* * *

T: I just want to ask you something. I am a school student and I am going to study in England, but I'm not very clear about what to do after I arrive.

A: I see. This is your first time to study aboard, isn't it?

* * *

T: Yes, so I'm very nervous and don't know how to adapt to the new environment.

A: I've met many students going aborad for study before, so maybe I can help you.

* * *

T: That's great.

A: Are you going alone?

* * *

T: Yes, I'm going there for two years.

A: I suggest you first get familiar with the block you will live in and every street around so that you will know where to buy some articles of everyday use.

* * *

T: Yes, I'm going to live in a family house, which I think will help me to get used to some English customs and learn English quickly.

A: Then you should go to bank to deposit some money and get your bank cards and go to school to make your student card, library card and other credentials.

* * *

T: Oh, right and I should go around the campus to get myself adapted.

A: Then you are supposed to select some courses and make some choices of your extracur-ricular activities.

* * *

T: Right, it's a serious thing.

A: Don't forget to inform your families and friends if you change your contact and address so that they will get in touch with you if you are in trouble or something.

* * *

T: Yes.

是的。

A: Then do something you like, such as making some friends and doing some visits to surrounding cities.

* * *

T: And I can taste all delicious food there. Ha.

A: It's great. Now you are not that nervous but excited, aren't you?

* * *

T: Yes, thank you so much. It's very kind of you.

T: Excuse me.

A: Can I help you?

* * *

T: Yes, I need to transfer flight after we land, but I'm not sure what to do next.

A: When does the connecting flight arrive?

* * *

T: It's 10:30.

A: Our flight arrives at 8:30, so don't worry. You have enough time to transfer.

* * *

T: That's great. So shall I go to the flight connection counter and go through the procedures first?

A: Yes, there will be a sign beside the gate and it will show you how to get to the connection counter. It's on the second floor if I've got it right.

* * *

T: And then? Need I take my luggage by myself?

A: Do you have check-in luggage?

* * *

T: Yes, I have two pieces of check-in luggage and one carry-on luggage here.

A: Then you have to recheck in your luggage as you did before.

* * *

T: Oh, I see.

A: But don't worry, it will be easier this time.

* * *

T: Good. Thank you very much.

A: Can I help you?

T: Yes, I want to know when we land on the ground?

* * *

A: We are arriving at the destination in 10 minutes.

T: I was wondering whether it's cold outside because I have got a cold.

* * *

A: The temperature is almost the same as that of the departure city, about 23 degrees Celsius. But since you have got a cold, I suggest you put on a coat. It's evening after all, and it's a little bit windy.

T: Alright. It's very kind of you.

* * *

A: Anything else?

T: Oh, right. What should I do when we get off the plane?

* * *

A: Then you get your luggage at the baggage claim area according to your flight number. If your baggage hasn't come out from the conveyor belt, wait a moment, please.

T: OK, Can I just leave the airport after getting my luggage?

* * *

A: No. Is this your first time to Sydney?

T: Right. This is my first time to Australia.

* * *

A: Then you have to get through the customs.

T: What shall I do there?

* * *

A: Just answer some questions from the officers.

T: Is that difficult? You know, my English is not very good.

* * *

A: Often it's not very hard. Usually he will ask you where you are from and ready to, what you are going to do and how long will you stay in that country or something like that.

T: Oh, I see. What if I don't understand him?

* * *

A: Don't be nervous. Just ask him again and if you still can't understand, he will get an interpreter to help.

T: Wow, that's great.

* * *

A: Any other questions?

T: No, this is the second time.

* * *

A: It's normal if you don't often take the plane. Just relax.

T: Why this happens to me when I am on the plane? I feel bad.

* * *

A: Don't worry, madam. It's because of the lower air pressure.

T: What should I do?

* * *

A: You may feel much better if you chew a gum.

T: OK, thanks. Does it work really? I'll give it a try.

* * *

A: Are you feeling better now? Do you need some pills?
