1. give credit where credit is due ** 称赞（感谢）值得称赞（感谢）的人

解 习语；词义溯源：将［信誉（credit）］给予［应有的、合适的（due）］某人或某物

例 I have to admit, you're a success. I never expected it. When we were students, I always thought I'd be the one to be successful and you'd be a factory laborer or something like that. So let me give credit where credit is due: you've done much better than me.

2. give free rein to sb. / give sb. free rein ** 放任某人，对某人不加约束
