1. get down to business 〔work〕 **开始做正事;进入严肃话题

解 习语;词义溯源:[下降(down)]到达[正事、工作(business,work)]

例 Don't bother to bring your proposals with you tomorrow. Mr. Chen wants everybody to take a tour of the new factory first. Then we'll get down to business on the second day. Okay?

2. get down to cases **开始谈正事,着手干正事

解 习语;词义溯源:[下降(down)]到达[问题,事件(cases)]

例 Once the engineers have re-drafted the building's plans, we can get down to cases on such things as what style of bricks you want, the color of the floors, the type of furniture, etc.

3. get down to the nitty-gritty *认真考虑细节

解 俚语;词义溯源:[下降(down)]到达[问题的核心、本质(nitty-gritty)]

例 Ithink it was about 11:00 PM that we actually got down to the nitty-gritty. We worked through the night and had our costumes ready for the parade by 12:00 the next day.

4. get 〔have〕 goose bumps 〔pimples〕 **起鸡皮疙瘩,毛骨悚然
