Saudi Arabia and Russia have decided to end their oil price war by agreeing to make the biggest production cuts in history. The deal they agreed with other oil producers removed around 1/10 of global oil supply. Since early March, oil price has plunged to their lowest level in nearly two decades, because of falling demands due to coronavirus.

Italy and France have recorded an improvement in their daily number of coronavirus deaths. Italy has registered its lowest tally for more than three weeks at 431. France reported slight falls in the number of dead.

The British prime minister Boris Johnson is recuperating after spending a week in hospital suffering from Covid-19. He is not expected to fully return to work for weeks. In a video message, Mr. Johnson paid tribute to the national health service for saving his life.

In another news, the government in Chad says its army will continue to participate in joint military operations against Jihadist groups across the region. The statement from the foreign ministry comes two days after president Idriss Déby seems to suggest an imminent troop withdrawal.

And a large part of the southern United States has been hit by extreme weather, including unusually powerful tornadoes. In Louisiana, a number of homes were destroyed in the city of Monroe.
