Cleanup continues in China's eastern Fujian andZhejiang provinces following deadly typhoonMeranti's landfall Thursday, but the region is also onthe alert as typhoon Malakas approaches.

On Saturday, typhoon Malakas brushed Taiwan's eastern coast, closing offices and schools anddisrupting transportation in the country's capital, Taipei. No major damage was reported,despite wind gusts near 200 kilometers per hour.
