City College Plymouth is celebrating after its GCSE students achieved an impressive overall pass rate of 99%.

A little more than 1,000 students sat their English, maths and science exams at the city's largest provider of technical education and GCSEs this summer.

Of those students, 64% were 16- to 18-year-olds who were retaking their GCSEs because they had not previously achieved a grade C/4 or above.

The Government aims to ensure that every young person leaving education achieves at least a grade C/4 in these subjects. Therefore, the College combines GCSEs with full-time technical / vocational courses, such as BTECs.

BTEC (National Qualification Framework) results were released last week on Vocational Results Day, when a number of the College's BTEC programmes received an impressive 100% pass rate in subject areas, including applied science, engineering, computing, business and sport.
