Chapter 19
High above the harbor, Nigel flew with Marlin and Dory. He landed on the dock and dropped Dory and Marlin back into the water.
“I’m so sorry,” Nigel said. “Truly I am.” Marlin gave him a small nod, then swam off with Dory.
“Dory,” Marlin said. “If it wasn’t for you, I never would have even made it here. So thank you.”
Marlin began to swim away.
“Hey, wait a minute. Where are you going?” Dory asked.
“It’s over, Dory. We were too late. Nemo’s gone. And I’m going home now,” Marlin said sadly.
Shocked, Dory pleaded with him. “No, you can’t. I remember things better with you. Look—P. Sherman, 42… ohh… It’s there. I can feel it. I look at you and I’m home. Please, I don’t want that to go away. I don’t want to forget.”
“I’m sorry, Dory,” Marlin said. “But I want to forget.”
Once again, he swam away and left Dory all alone.
Back at the water treatment plant, two crabs were greedily snatching bits of food from jets of water streaming from holes in the pipe.
The crabs stopped short when Marlin appeared in the distance. They called out toMarlin, “Hey! Heeeey!”
Marlin paid no attention to them and continued to swim toward the ocean.
“Yeah, that’s it, fellah! Just keep on swimming,” one crab said. “You got that?”
“Too right, mate,” the other crab agreed. Just then, Nemo popped up from a hole between the two crabs. “Hey! Have you seen my dad?” Nemo asked.
The crabs snapped at Nemo. “Gotcha!” one of the crabs said to Nemo.
“N-n-no!” cried Nemo as he swam away in the direction of the harbor.
