Becca: So where are you headed?

Jason: Connecticut College.

Becca: Oh, right. That's a good school. Not far. I bet you parents so pleased for you to be closed by...

Jason: It's just my mom, but yeah, she's pretty happy about it. She keeps saying she's gonna apply to the grad program so she can keep an eye on me while I'm up there. She's just joking though. She's not really looking forward to it, since I'm the only one at home now, but I told her I'd come over on the weekends and stop there if I could.

Becca: That'll be nice.

Jason: So, I'm sorry.

Becca: Oh, I know, you don't have to...

Jason: I know that doesn't help, but...

Becca: No it does. It really does.

Jason: And I know I should've tried to get in touch.

Becca: No, it's fine.

Jason: I just really wish I had driven down a different block that day.

Becca: I know.

Jason: You know what? I should maybe go.

Becca: It's alright.

Jason: My mom's gonna start to wonder where I'm at.

Becca: It's okay. You really don't have to...

1. skip school: 逃学。skip的意思是“不做（应做的事等）；不参加”，如skip class（逃课，翘课）。

2. play hooky: 旷课；逃学。也可以用play truant来表达。看一下例句：Youngsters who play hooky are usually bored with some courses.（逃学的青少年通常是对某些课程感到厌烦。）

美国大学的种类

 

 

1. 大学（University）: 可以是私立学校或当州州政府支持，大学里有文学院，理学院，教育学院等等。并且分为大学部，研究部，或是在博士课程中的研究，如哈佛大学，耶鲁大学，加州州立大学等。

 

2. 自由文理学院（Liberal Art College）：通常只授予到学士学位（有些也提供硕士），以私立为主，全美国大约有六百多所自由文理学院。学校规模一般为500-2500人，每节人数少于20个人的课比例约为80%，因此学生跟教授直接交流接触的机会比较多，同学间及师生的联系也比较密切。这类学校以提供文科较多，有时也会有理工科。在美国顶尖的自由文理学院和常春藤盟校一样非常难申请。

 

3. 社区学院（Community College）：又叫城市大学，这类学校提供两年副学士学位（Associate Degree），学生可以在社区大学先完成前两年的大学教育，之后再转到四年制大学完成后面两年，一样可以拿到学士学位。社区学院通常都是由州政府支持，最大的优点就是费用便宜。
