My Views on University Ranking
University ranking, boasted by universities and students, has become very popular recently. When students make the first significant decision of their life, i.e. to decide which university to go to, they always resort to the university ranking as the most important criterion.
Different opinions, however, are held by different people. Some argue that without adequate information, the university ranking would be the best way to evaluate schools. Others maintain that rankings are based on the comprehensive research and teaching ability of a university, so they do not reflect the actual situation of a certain major. Therefore, if you go to a university that is ranking top but not good at your chosen major, it would be a disaster.
While I believe that the university ranking is an important indicator of education quality, I still think there are other aspects of a school to take into account when making our decisions. To sum up, ranking is just one reference and cannot veto other effective methods of choosing university.
