Germany is to inspect the safety standards of its nuclear power plants, as an explosion smashed a building housing a nuclear reactor in Japan after a massive earthquake and tsunami, Chancellor Angela Merkel said late Saturday.
"The events in Japan is a turning point for the world," Merkel told a press conference in Berlin, accompanied by her Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle.
