本·琼森（Ben Jonson），英国文艺复兴时期重要的剧作家、诗人和评论家。1572年6月11日生于伦敦。主要诗集有《格言诗》、《森林集》、《灌木集》等。他曾就学于古代史学者坎姆登，并在其资助下到威斯敏斯特学校读书，获得关于希腊、罗马文学的丰富知识。后来，他博览群书，成为当时学识最渊博的剧作家之一。
这首诗中，热恋中的情郎手端美酒，眼睛却在寻找与情人沟通的机会。玫瑰花冠是爱情的象征，但情郎此举不只是为了取悦情人或纯粹地表达爱意，而是为了让玫瑰花接受情人的亲吻后得以“永不凋残”，并且就如同情人的气息般永远地保留在自己的记忆中！真可谓情之深，爱之切。诗人对情郎的心理描写得细致入微，字里行间流露出真挚情意。
