1. recruit: 新兵。

2. break in: 训练，驯服。例如：break in an assistant to the new work（训练一名助手使之适应新的工作）。

3. fall in: 排队集合。

4. formation: 队形；阵式。

5. gerbil: 沙鼠。

6. grovel: 卑躬屈膝。看一下例子：She will not grovel to anyone.（她不会向任何人屈服。）

7. bone: （用以抚慰的）小惠。例如：throw a bone to angry workers with a small pay increase（稍加一点工资对愤怒的工人施以小惠）。

8. guts: 勇气，胆量，魄力。

9. dummy grenade: 哑弹。

10. jitters: 紧张不安，神经过敏。

11. occult: 超自然的，神秘的。

12. Teutonic: 日耳曼人的，日耳曼的。

13. formula: 配方。

14. serum: 血清。

15. amplify: 放大；增强。例如：An electronic device amplified the speaker's voice. （电子设备放大了演讲人的声音。）amplify也有“详述，详说”的意思，例如：Let me amplify my earlier remarks.（我来详细说说我早些时候讲过的话。）
