1. set sb. up: 撮合某人。也可以用hook sb. up来表达。看一下例子：I don't want you to set me up with anybody ever again!（我可不想你再帮我牵什么线了。）

2. pros and cons: 支持和反对的理由；利与弊。看一下例子：You must weigh the pros and cons.（你必须考虑正反两面意见。）

3. gross: 令人不快的。

4. blowoff: 这里指的是把某人打发掉，甩掉。动词形式是blow off。看一下例子：She's going to blow off John because she's not interested in him.（她想把约翰甩掉，因为她对他不感兴趣。）

5. come up with: 想出。例如：He could not come up with a proper answer.（他想不出一个合适的回答。）

6. pithy: 简洁有力的；精炼的。请看例子：His pithy comments knocked the bottom out of my argument.（他精辟的评论驳倒了我的论点。）

7. nutmeg: 肉豆蔻（常用作调味料）。

8. voicemail: 语音信箱；电话留言。

9. dial tone: （电话的）拨号音。

10. on the precipice of: 濒临……险境，处于……边缘。例如：on the precipice of war（处于战争边缘）。

11. run-in: 在这里指的是run in的名词形式。run-in还可以表示“争论，争吵，冲突”。
